Getting Ready for Travel: Rabies Vaccination
While visiting the Big Easy we had to start planning for our next great adventure. Unfortunately, the government of our destination required canines to be current on their rabies vaccination twelve months to twenty-one days prior to our travel date. Since Willie hate needles, his last shot was a three year rabies vaccine. This vaccination was still good for another 6 months, but since it was not yet recognized by our next destination (they only recognized 1 year vaccines) we were required to get another.
It just so happens that one of our favorite vets, Dr. Adriana Sagrera – DVM, practices just outside of New Orleans in Metairie, Louisiana at Natural Pet Care. Unlike most veterinarians, she treats animals with homeopathic medications, as well as Chinese herbal remedies and nutrition. I love that she only uses traditional medicine when absolutely necessary; it just seems like a better way to keep Willie healthy. Unfortunately in Willie’s case, there was no homeopathic road around a rabies shot. 🙁
During our visit Dr. Sagrera was super happy to see Willie and hear about his latest adventures. Unlike most veterinary clinics, her office was inviting with toys and treats for everyone and she even sat on the floor instead of making Willie stand on a scary sterile table. It’s a really neat place. After giving Willie his shot, which really wasn’t THAT bad, Dr. Sagrera wished us all the best, hoping to see Willie again the next time he returned to New Orleans.
If you would like to connect with Dr. Sagrera, who we highly recommend, here’s her contact info:
